Holidays in Central Florida

Step aside New York City… the new prime vacation destination this holiday season is Orlando, Florida!

Who needs bitterly cold weather when you can enjoy sunny warm skies at everyone’s favorite time of year? With a whole host local holiday-themed attractions and traditions, travelers and their children will have an easy time keeping the Christmas spirit alive during their dream vacation to Central Florida. Guests at the fabulous Solara Resort community are perfectly situated to take advantage of these fun opportunities, and we here on the resort staff are already dreaming up was to make this Christmas season one that you and your family will never forget!

No trip to the Orlando-Kissimmee region during the holiday season would be complete without exploring Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. This renowned celebration runs on select nights from November 8th through December 22nd at Disney’s famous Magic Kingdom theme park.

Attendees to the festivities are treated to a variety of unique holiday-themed entertainments and activities. See your favorite Disney characters in the nightly Once Upon a Christmastime Parade, or gaze up in awe at Minnie’s Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks Show. Watch as Queen Elisa of Frozen fame transforms Cinderella’s castle into a winter wonderland, where your child can make their very own Christmas wish with the Disney star. Special Christmas treats and thrilling rides are rounded out with a visit from the big man himself, Santa Claus, each night of the party. Your children couldn’t hope for a more memorable Christmas experience if you booked tickets on Polar Express tomorrow! You can either purchase your tickets on Disney’s highly user-friendly website or contact the always helpful Solara Resort staff at our Clubhouse for more information.

Not to be outdone, Universal Orlando Resort is also offering a number of Christmas-oriented special attractions to their visitors from November 16th to January 5th, offering guests the chance to ring in the new year with holiday cheer. Everyone’s favorite Harry Potter locations, Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley, will undergo a complete Christmas makeover—as fans of the beloved franchise add a little Christmas magic to their journey through the wizarding world.

The Grinch’s hilarious Grinchmas Who-liday Spectacular also brings Dr. Seuss’s classic holiday story to life and a daily parade will showcase a litany of other famous Universal and Christmas characters. Whether vacationers visit Disney, Universal or both during their holiday trip to the Solara Resort this year, they’re sure to make memories that will last a lifetime.

These are but a couple of the more famous holiday-centered opportunities for fun in Orlando this year. Other events and attractions include the Orlando Museum of Art’s Festival of Trees and Ugly Sweater Party, a concert by the famous Trans Siberian Orchestra on December 14th at the Amway Center, and the increasingly popular Krampusfest on December 8th at Market on South. Each of these activities, and many more, are sure to solidify Orlando’s position as THE place to visit this holiday season.

For more information on any of these events, as well as guidance on where to purchase tickets, be sure to visit the Solara Resort Clubhouse—where our dedicated staff will be decorating our expansive clubhouse grounds to create the Christmas environment you and your families deserve. We can’t wait to celebrate with you!

Fly High Over Solara Resort in a Hot Air Balloon

Vacationers to the Central Florida area are privileged to have so many varied and high-quality balloon tour options nearby.

It’s likely that one of the first things you’ll notice during your magical stay at the Solara Resort is the prevalence of hot air balloons hovering through the sky most mornings here-weather permitting. Riders are afforded a unique, bird’s eye view of all the gorgeous attractions, amenities and natural beauty in the region, from towering Ferris wheels to majestic lakes and fields. Thanks to the picturesque layout and landscaping at our community, the Solara Resort is a favorite fly-over for many local balloon tour routes.

Many mornings, you’ll wake up to a virtual fleet of multicolored balloons manned by excited riders eager to greet passersby down below. It’s no surprise that when so many folks think of Orlando, they picture a storybook-like environment of wonder and adventure. Where else can you look up above and make new unexpected friends but in Orlando?

Now we know what you must be thinking: “Isn’t that dangerous?” “What about my fear of heights?” “What if I need to use the restroom up there?” Well, have no fear! Regional balloon tour companies like Guru Balloon in Kissimmee or Orlando Balloon Rides in Davenport have been in the business for decades. It’s not their first rodeo, as they say.

These businesses maintain a thoughtful, well-tried set of procedures and safety measures to ensure that your journey through the clouds is a stress-free one. Afterall, what’s a little leisurely waft through the air compared with some of some of the thrillingly fast-paced roller coasters and other rides at Orlando’s renowned theme parks? Your feet will appreciate the feeling of weightlessness that comes with a balloon ride, especially after a long day of exploration and fun at Disney or Universal.

Without a doubt, one of the most famous balloon rides in the area is the Aerophile in Disney Springs. Easily recognizable by its blue color and intricate design pattern, the Aerophile is a great way for newbies to try out a largely stationary balloon ride; the balloon remains securely tethered to the ground throughout its flight. Most days, the Aerophile is operational until midnight and it boasts a large basket capable holding many more riders than normal balloons. The Aerophile serves all ages. Tickets are $20 for adults (10 years or age or older) and $15 for children (ages 3 to 9). Plan your trip today and take in an impressive view of Disney Springs like no other.

Guests vacationing at Solara Resort are lucky to have so many incredible entertainment options close by. Truly, there is no other place in the world like it! One of the most fun—and inexplicably overlooked—pastimes here are hot air balloon tours. Luckily for us here at Solara, they visit us so often that they are impossible to forget. So, reach out to one of the excellent local tour companies ahead of your trip and book your ride today. There’s no better way to take in our sights than from up where the fireworks fly!

Getting to Know Orlando Through Soccer

When most people think of Orlando, they usually think Disney, Universal Studios or SeaWorld, but did you know it is also a hub for a variety of thrilling soccer events and attractions—particularly in the month of July?

Whether indoor or outdoor, in a classroom setting or in a field, playing or watching soccer is often the perfect way to spend your summer days here in Central Florida’s prime vacation destination. Tons of teams and individuals travel to the Orlando area each year to compete, train and sometimes just make new friends. Guests at Solara Resort are ideally situated to take advantage of this aspect of Orlando’s character!

One of the most exciting upcoming sports events in the Orlando area is the Major League Soccer All Star Game this July 31st at the Orlando City Stadium. The MLS All Star game is an annual match showcasing the League’s finest players. It draws fans, media and other players from across the country. This year, the All-Star team will be facing down Club Atletico de Madrid, a formidable Spanish team. The game marks the 16th time the All-Stars have faced down a foreign team, adding an international dimension to the already widely followed match. The entire five-day MLS All Star event also includes news conferences, community service days, a homegrown game featuring young MLS standouts and, typically, a concert. You won’t want to miss this unique celebration of soccer prowess and fandom.

A few days before the MLS All Star game—on July 29th—there’s another fantastic soccer-centered attraction kicking off in Orlando. The Real Madrid Soccer Camp is an incredible five-day opportunity for your children to train and play with some of the finest instructors the soccer world has to offer. Kids ages six to 14 will meet each morning at Barber Park in Orlando and learn tricks of the trade with Real Madrid’s unique training methodology. They’ll be given spiffy new Adidas uniforms, and will train and compete amongst themselves under the guidance of experienced UEFA coaches. With fees starting at $499, the camp offers a reasonably priced avenue to cultivate your young athlete’s abilities and passion.

If you’re a soccer fan but aren’t interested in purchasing tickets to one of the area’s renowned soccer events, there’s still a great option for you! Solara Resort offers a beautiful lake-side soccer field with stadium seating on one side for families and friends to enjoy whenever they like. Open day and night (with overhead lighting) and with soccer balls available at our Clubhouse, any guest in our fabulous vacation community is free to partake. We can’t tell you how many heart-pounding matches we’ve witnessed on the Solara field. Will you join in next?

With so many options for fans of the planet’s most popular sport in the Orlando area, why not make our wonderful resort your next choice for a summer get away?

Celebrate the Fourth of July in Style at the Solara Resort Clubhouse!

The Fourth of July is right around the corner, and you know what that means… it’s the perfect time to visit the country’s unofficial Independence Day hub: Florida!

Ok, ok don’t tell Texas or Virginia or any other famously patriotic states, but Florida really is the place to be on July 4th. Where else can you visit a world-famous theme park by day, enjoy some amazing BBQ in the afternoon and witness incredible fireworks displays by night? We’re pretty good at that stuff down here. After all, we do it all year round!

When you travel to Florida for the fourth, where better to stay than at Solara Resort? Just a quick drive to Disney Springs or Universal CityWalk, and you’ll be front and center for the day and night’s festivities. We’ll have fabulous food at the Solstice Bar & Grille, all day thrills at our FlowRider surfing simulator and stylish, high-quality American flag themed Knockaround sunglasses available for purchase. The laid-back community atmosphere and beautifully designed homes make Solara THE ideal destination to enjoy everyone’s favorite July occasion with your friends and family. Who knows, you may even make some new friends while you’re here!

We would be remiss not to remind guests that week to check out the nearby town of Davenport’s annual 4th of July Celebration & Fireworks Display. It’s the largest pyrotechnics display of its kind in Polk County, any and everyone is encouraged to attend—in fact, there’s no fee for admission! Spectators who arrive with their own lawn chairs will be perfectly equipped to enjoy the show, which runs from 3:00 pm to 9:45 pm on the holiday. The location of the event is the Lewis Mathews Sports Complex at 400 Palm Street in Davenport FL, just a quick 30-minute drive from the Solara Resort Clubhouse.

International guests at Solara need not feel left out from the Independence Day revelries—especially our former colonial friends in the United Kingdom (we don’t hold any grudges!) The Fourth of July is the perfect opportunity to witness and take part in one of the United State’s oldest cultural traditions. It’s a time to learn and celebrate what it means to be an American. More than anything, it’s a day to kick back, have fun and socialize with friends new and old as everyone gives thanks for the opportunity to enjoy this beautiful state and unique country—whether you live here or are just visiting.

So, what are you waiting for? Hop online and book your stay at Central Florida’s pre-eminent vacation rental community, Solara Resort. We can’t wait to celebrate all summer long with you!
